Day 3 of 12 Days of Career Clarity

When You’re Thinking About Change — But Unsure What That Really Means

Thinking about a career change can feel exciting — and overwhelming at the same time. You might sense that something no longer fits, but still feel unsure what the “right” next step actually looks like.

The good news is this:
Change doesn’t have to be dramatic.
With the right support and structure, it becomes a thoughtful, steady and empowering process.

Why Change Feels So Hard

Even when change is positive, your brain prefers the familiar. That’s why you might find yourself feeling:

  • stuck between options

  • scared of making the wrong decision

  • overwhelmed by possibilities

  • unsure whether to stay or leave

  • guilty for wanting more

  • tired or emotionally drained

None of this means you’re weak or indecisive.
It simply means you care about getting this right.

Three Grounded Steps to Navigate Career Change With More Ease

1. Understand What’s Really Shifting

Not all dissatisfaction means you need to quit your job.
Sometimes it’s a mismatch in values, workload, boundaries, pace or expectations.

A quiet question to sit with:
What exactly isn’t working for me anymore?

2. Explore Possibilities — Not Perfect Answers

Instead of asking:
“What job should I do?”
try asking:

  • What do I want to feel more of in my working life?

  • What strengths do I want to be using?

  • What direction am I curious about right now?

Curiosity is far more helpful than certainty at this stage.

3. Move Forward in Small, Calm Steps

Career change rarely begins with one bold leap.
More often, it begins with steady, manageable steps such as:

  • a reflective conversation

  • a short course

  • a workshop

  • or simply giving yourself space to think clearly

Small, consistent steps build confidence — and momentum.
